Group Process

B. Tuckman's steps of the group process Form, Storm, Norm, and Perform should not be overlooked in any group process. This brings back thoughts and reflections of past unsuccessful groups. The most recent mishap, I believe, the group lacked the Norm step and there fore was quite ineffective at utilizing all group members in the Performing step. The absecnce of the previous steps led to a rather uncomfortable adjournment. Although the steps seem somewhat elementary and basic, we are human beings in a social setting, and our needs must be tended to in order for us to fully function. I appreciate the added step, which includes adjourning, assessment, and conclusion. Good way to disban the group and reflect on the process and the groups' accomplishements. His motivation research sounds interesting in terms of self regulatory behavior- and the absence of procrastination. I'm finding it very intersting the different ways in which people do research or set forth a new theory. It's not like the group process didn't exist before Tuckman, but he managed to capture what was happening. He captured the happenings and was able to put words to the steps and provide us with a metaphor or a visual image for us to make sense of what's going on.
